Of all the ethnic crosses, I love Ethiopian and Tuareg crosses the most. I think they are soulful and beautiful and working with them is a true pleasure. I also like the fact that most often, they are not made of the so-called precious metals. Many times they are made of whatever metal people can get their hands on. Precious is in the eye of the beholder.
I designed this necklace to create what I hope is a tapestry of colors and textures that illuminate this gorgeous brass Ethiopian cross. The colors I chose are soft and earthy, the textures varied from smooth, almost woody looking horn and matte finish powder glass from Ghana to hard and shiny crystals. I hope I honored it appropriately.
