Culture Clash or No?

Mixed Metal Tribal Necklace

This pendant features two components – part of an African cross at the top and a rustic Buddha at the bottom. I think they work together beautifully. They share the same sense of history, soulfulness, both have patina and texture, both feel as though they have travelled and wear their journeys beautifully.

I remember years ago selling at a craft show. I had a necklace out that combined African beads with an Aztec pendant. A lady walked by and made a comment in that “how dare she” tone of voice. I kinda questioned myself then – did I make a jewelry faux pas?

These days, I am more confident in the work. And as for cultures clashing, how can they when we are one race, the human race, and one people, citizens of the planet. Mix it up as you (and I) please.
